Kilimanjaro Route
The Lemosho Route is widely regarded as the finest route on Kilimanjaro. Approaching from the remote western slopes, it traverses all five of Kilimanjaro's ecological zones and offers an unrivalled wilderness experience before joining the Southern Circuit to the summit.
The long, gradual approach gives your body more time to adapt — a key reason for the higher summit success rate.
Starting from the wild western slopes means fewer climbers and a more authentic mountain experience.
From montane rainforest to arctic summit — Lemosho is the only route that truly crosses every zone.

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Our team will meet you and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha. Evening briefing with your lead guide, equipment check, and a welcome dinner to kick off the adventure.
Drive to Londorossi Gate on the western side of the park. After completing registration, begin your trek through beautiful montane rainforest rich with colobus monkeys and diverse birdlife. Camp at Big Tree Camp surrounded by ancient trees.
Exit the rainforest and enter the open heath and moorland zone. The landscape opens up dramatically with sweeping views. You'll get your first full view of Kibo's glaciers as you reach the vast Shira Plateau.
A key acclimatisation day. Trek across the Shira Plateau to Shira 2, with an optional acclimatisation hike to a higher point (walk high, sleep low technique). On a clear day the views of Kibo peak are extraordinary. Giant groundsels and lobelias dot the landscape.
The most critical acclimatisation day. You ascend to Lava Tower at 4,600m — above the altitude of Mont Blanc — for lunch, then descend to Barranco Camp. This "climb high, sleep low" strategy is a key reason Lemosho has such high summit success rates. Stunning views of the Breach Wall.
Start with the exhilarating Barranco Wall scramble — a steep but non-technical climb that offers some of the most spectacular views on the mountain. After descending into the Barranco Valley, continue through lunar landscapes to Karanga Camp. An unforgettable day.
A shorter day by design — rest is crucial before summit night. Arrive at Barafu (Base Camp) by early afternoon. Spend the afternoon resting, eating a good meal, and preparing your summit kit. Your guide will brief you on the final push. Try to sleep — the alarm is set for midnight.
The summit push begins at midnight under a blanket of stars. Pole pole (slowly, slowly) your team ascends through the darkness, reaching Stella Point at crater rim as the sun rises over Africa. From there it's a 45-minute walk along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak — 5,895m, the highest point in Africa. Celebrate, photograph, and begin the long descent to Mweka Camp. Dinner and overnight at lower altitude camp. The next morning, a final descent to the Mweka Gate and transfer to your hotel.
