Kilimanjaro Route
The Lemosho Route is one of the most beautiful and less-crowded ways to climb Kilimanjaro. Starting from the remote western side, it gives you a longer 7 to 8 day journey with excellent acclimatisation through the climb-high, sleep-low approach. You cross rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, and finally the icy summit zone at Uhuru Peak — a true wilderness experience with strong summit success rates.
The long, gradual approach gives your body more time to adapt — a key reason for the higher summit success rate.
Starting from the wild western slopes means fewer climbers and a more authentic mountain experience.
From montane rainforest to arctic summit — Lemosho is the only route that truly crosses every zone.

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Our team will meet you and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha. Evening briefing with your lead guide, equipment check, and a welcome dinner to kick off the adventure.
Drive to Londorossi Gate on the western side of the mountain for permits and registration, then continue by 4x4 to the trailhead. Enter lush rainforest filled with moss, bird calls, and occasional colobus monkeys before reaching Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp.
Trek across grassy moorland and heather with volcanic rock formations as you climb onto the Shira Plateau. Today is a steady altitude gain day with wide open scenery and your first strong mountain panoramas.
Continue from Shira 1 to Shira 2 Camp across moorland with beautiful views toward Kibo and the Northern Ice Fields. In the afternoon, complete an acclimatisation walk before returning to camp to support stronger altitude adjustment.
The most critical acclimatisation day. You ascend to Lava Tower at 4,600m — above the altitude of Mont Blanc — for lunch, then descend to Barranco Camp. This "climb high, sleep low" strategy is a key reason Lemosho has such high summit success rates. Stunning views of the Breach Wall.
Start early to climb the Barranco Wall before trail traffic builds. After the scramble, continue over rolling ascents and descents to Karanga Camp, then complete a short acclimatisation hike above camp before returning to rest.
A shorter day by design. Trek to Barafu Summit Camp, your launch point for Uhuru Peak. Arrive with enough time to eat, hydrate, and rest while your crew prepares camp and your guide briefs you for the midnight summit start.
Your summit push begins around midnight from Barafu. Step by step, you reach Stella Point at sunrise and continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m). After celebrating at Africa's highest point, descend back through Barafu and down to Mweka Camp. The following morning, complete the final descent to Mweka Gate for certificates and transfer back to the hotel.
